“The outcome of your obedience is not your responsibility (1).” Your responsibility is simply to obey. The outcome is then in the hands of the Lord!

Is God asking you to trust Him in a specific area today? If so, chances are the enemy knows and is trying to run interference between you and your blessing. He will put fear in your heart and doubt in your mind. But you have the power to overcome doubt by taking your thoughts captive.

Recently I was taught to add “In Jesus’ Name” behind my thoughts and that would help me determine if they came from God or the enemy. For example, “God can’t use me, In Jesus’ Name.” We know this contradicts scripture because Philippians 4:19 says, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Therefore I (we) must take that thought captive and recognize it as the untruth that it is.

Once you recognize the truth over the lie, you will be better equipped to step out in obedience. This does not stop the enemy from trying to interfere, but the outcome of your obedience is now in God’s hand.

2 Corinthians 10:5
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

The Blessed Life

Blessed. It’s such a beautiful word. And it’s the first word God chose through the psalmist to begin the book of Psalms. He could have chosen the word honor or glory or praise. Or maybe humble or forgive or respect. But instead, blessed is the first concept He wanted to share with us.

Do Not Be Discouraged

Joshua 1(6) be strong and courageous, (7) be strong and very courageous, (9) have I not commanded thee, be strong and courageous, (18) so be strong and courageous

After the death of Moses the Lord chose Joshua to lead the Israelities into the land He promised them. Repeatedly Joshua is told to be strong and courageous. He is also told to  1) obey the law, 2) not turn from the law to the left or right, 3) always keep the law on his lips, and 4) meditate on it day and night.

With those commands comes the promise of prosperity and success (8). I don’t know what you are in need of today, but I know we serve a just God, and just as He was with Joshua and the Israelites then, He is with you and me today. Let’s keep His law close to our hearts, remain strong and courageous through the trial and watch Him lead us into our promised land.

Lord, we pray that you will give us the strength to be obedient to Your law. Forgive us when we fall short and Lord, and lead us to victory over our trials, so that You may be glorified. Amen!

The Glory of God

Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.

No sunrise or sunset is the same. Each is as unique as the 7 billion people on earth. Glory to God. Some things can only be explained as miraculous. Happy Saturday!

Lies the Enemy Tell

Romans 3:23,24 All have fallen short of the glory of God, All are justified freely by His grace

Has the enemy ever taken your sin and rubbed it in your face, day after day, year after year, robbing you of your joy and your walk with the Lord? God promises that if we repent of our sin and ask forgiveness, He will not only forgive but forget. Isaiah 43:25 “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more. Satan on the other hand knows that if he can keep that sin at the forefront of our minds, he can keep us in guilt and shame.

If God chooses to forget our transgressions, it’s as though they never happened. I’m not saying there aren’t consequences to pay, but rather we need to stop reminding Him of what we did. We must reach out and take what is ours. The promises of God are real.

In a previous post I mentioned how difficult it was for me to look at myself in the mirror. Thanks to the enemy and the stronghold he had on my life, when I looked in the mirror all I saw was ugly. It wasn’t my face that I saw in the mirror and felt disgusted about. It was my spirit; my entire being. I could not look myself in the eyes. I begged the Lord to forgive me for the same thing, over and over and over again, not realizing He forgave me the very first time I asked.

But that one fateful day, through heartache and pain, I looked in the mirror and knew I had been forgiven. How did I know I had been forgiven? Because for the first time in many years, I didn’t look away.

Don’t let your past dominate your life or determine your future. Regardless of how large or small you feel your transgressions are, ask forgiveness, believe you are forgiven (based on God’s promises) and move on into your future. It’s waiting on you.

Replace “She” With Your Name

The Proverbs Woman

Take a verse, or as many as you like, and substitute “she” with your name. Let’s give God His word back because His Word is truth.

Here is mine (Verse 25):

Lisa is clothed with strength and dignity;
Lisa can laugh at the days to come

What is yours?

Love Yourself

“If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”

I hope you will apply this quote to your life and stop saying and thinking negative things about yourself.

For many years I would not even look at myself in the mirror. I was raised by my mom out in the country, and even though my dad lived in a neighboring city, we didn’t have a close relationship.  My childhood was riddled with pain and I grew into an introvert with very low self-esteem and hardly any self-confidence.

One day in my late 40’s someone very close to me hurt me so deeply, I experienced pain on a level I had never known pain before. In hindsight, that pain was the greatest catalyst in moving me to self-love. I very distinctly remember looking in the mirror and telling myself that I had done nothing to deserve that pain, and at that very moment I fell in love with myself. I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that also in that moment God wrapped His arms around me the way a father comforts his daughter and told me that He loved me. And for the first time in my life I believed it.

I grew up in an era where people didn’t talk about their emotions. Much of what people did and felt was simply swept under the rug. I don’t know what you are facing today, but I encourage you to find a friend who will listen to you, and pray for you. And you do the same for her. When we are weak, God is strong. Invite Him into the midst of your pain. Look at yourself in the mirror and see yourself as God sees you. In His eyes you are beautiful. You are not your sins! You are not your shortcomings! You are not your failures!

You are beautiful!

Comparison is Your Enemy

Psalm 139:13-14 NIV

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Have you ever compared yourself to a neighbor or co-worker, or even a close friend or relative. I know you have because we all do it. This Psalm should convince you that there is no one else on the planet like you. You are one of a kind. God had a plan for your life from before you were conceived. Therefore, there is no need to look at how others are living or what they have accomplished as a measure for where you should be in life. Comparison causes you to feel inadequate and creates envy in your heart. To accomplish your calling you must keep your focus on the one who can break strongholds and move mountains.

1 Peter 4:10:11 tells us that we’ve all been given a gift and we are to use our gifts to serve one another.

10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 11 Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.

So here’s the thing. You have everything you need to live out your calling already inside of you. If God did not give you the ability to sing, then you don’t need to sing to accomplish what He has called you to do. If He did not make you good at math, speaking or sewing, then you do not need math, speaking or sewing to accomplish His Will for your life.

There are times in our lives when words are spoken about us that make us feel rejected and unwanted. Sometimes those hurtful words come from the people we love and trust the most. But at some point in your life, you have to determine that you are going to move forward and forgive others for the way they treated you. This will be the beginning of your healing. Why not make that day TODAY!

Determine that you are going to focus on what God has for you and not what He is doing for others. He already knows your weakness and your strengths. He knows how the enemy has hurt you and caused you to have doubts about your calling. But according to Acts 17:26 He chose you before you were born for a purpose, to fulfill a plan in a predetermined point in time.

Lord we thank you that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. You had a plan for us before we were ever conceived in a mother’s womb. Help us to renew our mind and keep it focused on You and Your will for our life.

In the Name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen!

In the Cool of the Day

It was a pleasant morning. I was sitting on the patio listening to a traveling band practice across the street at the local high school. The percussion section was playing their chimes, bells and drums. I know this sound very well. I was a percussionist from 5th through 11th grade. My sister texted me to see how I was doing. She was really checking on my husband as he is three weeks into recovery from surgery to remove a cancerous mass from his colon. I told her that we were well. James was about to go for a walk and I was sitting outside enjoying the cool of the day.

That phrase reminded me of scripture where God was walking Continue reading In the Cool of the Day
